And where are the authorities?
Drivers of so-called “chocolate cars” (unregistered or illegally imported vehicles) are reporting alleged extortion on the Estación Manuel–Altamira highway.
According to the reports, motorists traveling this stretch are subjected to inspections and intimidation, where they are allegedly required to pay up to 3,000 pesos to continue their journey. If they refuse, they claim they are threatened with having their vehicles seized.
These complaints have sparked outrage among drivers, who question whether these are legitimate operations or practices that directly harm citizens relying on these vehicles for transportation and work.
The issue raises an uncomfortable question once again: who watches over those responsible for enforcing the law?
💬 Have you driven on this stretch of highway?
💬 Have you been asked for money during an inspection?
💬 Would you report a situation like this?
The public demands clarity, legality, and transparency in any operation conducted on Tamaulipas’ highways.
