Thanks to excellent binational coordination between Mexican and U.S. authorities, a U.S. citizen was arrested while attempting to illegally smuggle nine yellow-headed parrots (Amazona oratrix) across the international bridge in Reynosa, Tamaulipas 👮‍♂️🌉.

Jesús Elías Ibarra, director of the Conibio Global collective, reported that the birds were being transported hidden in a box, without any corresponding documentation or permits 📦❌.

🤝 Teamwork: The director thanked PROFEPA (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection) for trusting his team to receive, medically assess, and care for these beautiful seized specimens.

🌎 A shared struggle: “The fight against illegal wildlife trafficking is a shared responsibility. Each rescued animal represents an opportunity to protect our natural heritage and combat one of the crimes that most threatens Mexico’s biodiversity,” Ibarra emphasized.

Illegal wildlife trafficking is a crime! Let’s care for and protect our wildlife. 💚🌿
