Changes in Gasoline Prices in Mexico

After the elimination of the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), the National Energy Commission (CNE) became the sole regulatory body for Mexico’s energy sector in March 2025. The objective of this technical agency is to regulate, supervise, and impose sanctions on activities related to energy matters.

The CNE’s mission is to guarantee sovereignty, security, and self-sufficiency in the energy sector in accordance with the policies established by the Ministry of Energy (Sener). According to information from the Government of Mexico, the agency’s main activities regarding hydrocarbons include:

Regulating prices and tariffs.

Granting permits to store, transport, and sell gasoline.

Maintaining a public and updated record of all these activities.

The organization does not operate independently. It coordinates with Sener while maintaining technical and operational autonomy to ensure that all decisions are based on professional criteria.

The final price of gasoline is determined by production, distribution, logistics, tax costs, and the price of hydrocarbons in international markets. Fuels are a very important component of the economy and play a significant role in determining inflation in every country.

President Claudia Sheinbaum and the business sector signed an agreement at the beginning of 2025 aimed at ensuring that Magna gasoline costs no more than 24 pesos per liter.
