Three missing babies raise alarms about a possible trafficking ring in Oaxaca

75

The disappearance of Dayana Romina Pérez Acuña, a four-month-old baby, and her sister Ximena Pérez Acuña, age 14, reported since June 10, 2026, in the community of San Miguel del Campo, part of the municipality of Asunción Cacalotepec in the Mixe region of Oaxaca, has once again raised concerns about child safety in the state.

This case adds to two other incidents reported this year involving the disappearance or abduction of babies, generating concern about the possible operation of networks dedicated to child trafficking. According to the Unit for the Search of Missing and Unlocated Persons, Dayana Romina was last seen together with her sister in San Miguel del Campo.

Since then, there has been no official information regarding their whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding their disappearance. Authorities continue to keep active search alerts for both minors, while family members and residents of the community are requesting support to locate them.

Previous cases under investigation

One of the most concerning previous cases occurred in April, when a baby from Donají was located nearly 250 kilometers away from the place where the disappearance was reported. Investigations pointed to circumstances consistent with human trafficking and the alleged offer of money to obtain illegal custody of the child.

Weeks later, a newborn was abducted from a private clinic in Ciudad Ixtepec. Although the baby was found alive the following day, authorities have not publicly reported any possible arrests or significant developments in the investigation.

Calls for clarification of possible links

The recurrence of these incidents within a period of less than three months has led to calls for authorities to determine whether there is any connection between the cases. Specialists and organizations believe that although each case may involve different circumstances, the repeated disappearances and abductions of babies require all lines of investigation to remain open.

The Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office now faces the challenge of clarifying the fate of Dayana Romina and Ximena Pérez Acuña, as well as providing updates on the previous cases to rule out or confirm the existence of a network dedicated to the recruitment, transportation, or illegal trafficking of minors within the state.
