Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum offered the support of the Mexican Foreign Ministry to businesspeople interested in investing in Cuba, following the approval of a package of 176 economic reforms with which the regime seeks to expand opportunities for foreign investment and the private sector.
Sheinbaum stated that any eventual Mexican participation would depend on private businesses and not on direct government investment. She also indicated that those wishing to invest on the island could rely on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to establish institutional contacts.
The reforms approved by the regime include incentives for foreign investment, greater participation of the private sector, opening up to private financial institutions, and the possibility for Cubans residing on and off the island to invest in various sectors of the economy.
