The news of a complaint filed with the Prosecutor’s Office against municipal police officers for theft of belongings from a residence where they responded to a report of a death, apparently from natural causes, circulated in complete secrecy.

Several weeks later, details of this case, which occurred at a residence in Primo Tapia, are beginning to emerge.

According to official sources, the accused officers entered the private residence in response to a report of a death from natural causes.

It turns out that the officers entered the apartment and left, “grabbing all the valuables they could.”

When a relative of the deceased asked why they were taking the items, the officers replied that they would turn them over to the Prosecutor’s Office.

But surprisingly, those belongings never arrived at the Prosecutor’s Office.

Once the complainant learned that the belongings had not been returned, they decided to file a complaint against the police officers for theft.

To ease the pressure and avoid media attention, police commanders intervened, demanding that the officers pay cash for the stolen belongings.

It is reported that each of the officers involved will have to pay 10,000 pesos to the complainant if she does not want to proceed with the complaint against them.

Just a week ago, the same Municipal Police Chief, Carlos Enrique Bernal Hinojosa, explained to the Unidos por Rosarito group the efforts to eradicate this behavior and acknowledged that on more than one occasion they have had to return money from police extortion, which they described as shameful scenes.

Rosarito faces a shortage of 322 active police officers.
