What The New York Times revealed yesterday is no mere rumor: it is a political earthquake.
More than a dozen Morena politicians—governors included—have become informants for the U.S. government. Some are already cooperating witnesses for the DEA.
While Claudia Sheinbaum shouts about “interference” and “attacks on sovereignty” at rallies, several of her fellow party members are crossing the river to save their own skins and turn in their colleagues. Governors who yesterday embraced the “4T” movement are today negotiating with the Americans behind closed doors.
This is not a betrayal of Morena.
This is irrefutable proof that the party which promised to fight corruption is rotten to the core. When the empire turns the screws, the self-proclaimed defenders of national sovereignty rush to offer themselves up as snitches.

It all crumbled the moment the DEA started knocking on doors and visas began to be revoked. Suddenly, the very people who accuse the United States of meddling in Mexican elections are begging Washington for protection and leniency.
This is not a party driven by ideology. It is a coalition of interests held together only as long as there is power and money. The moment real pressure and serious investigations arrive, the wolves start devouring one another.
Mexicans are no longer surprised. We know that many in power have coexisted comfortably with drug cartels. What is new is seeing how quickly they drop the mask at the first hard blow from the United States.
Morena isn’t falling apart because of Trump.
It is falling apart because it was never as solid as they tried to sell us. It was all just rhetoric. Underneath, it was all about business. And Morena harbors the majority of corrupt individuals and those close to organized crime; even though they might try to tell you otherwise, the reality is different. Morena is going to bring about its own downfall with its narco-politicians, and the good thing is that the “good and wise people” are aware of all their schemes.
