Merchants warned about the circulation of counterfeit 500-peso bills after one establishment was the victim of fraud committed by someone who made a payment with fake money.
The owners of a restaurant shared the incident on social media to warn other vendors in the municipality and surrounding communities.
“To our fellow merchants in Baca and neighboring towns, please be very careful when collecting payments, especially those of us who offer delivery service. Yesterday, during a delivery made at the entrance of a church located on 15th Street between 24th and 26th Streets, a person posing as a church employee paid us with a counterfeit 500-peso bill,” they stated in the post.
As part of the report, they shared information that could help identify the alleged perpetrator. They indicated that the person used the phone number 930-341-5239, which has incoming calls blocked.
They also reported that the suspect travels on a blue and black motorcycle and was wearing a black cap and sunglasses at the time of the incident.
After the post, other social media users commented that they had experienced similar situations.
According to their accounts, the perpetrators make small purchases and pay with counterfeit high-denomination bills, especially when businesses are about to close and have little time to verify the authenticity of the money.
