Durango is preparing to welcome hundreds of cyclists and national and international visitors for the Titan Desert, one of the world’s most important mountain biking competitions, which will take place from November 13 to 16. Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal emphasized that this event will put the state on the world map and generate benefits for tourism, the economy, and the communities along the routes.

“We’re going to make headlines worldwide. The biggest cycling race in the world is in Mexico, and it chose Durango,” said the governor, highlighting that more than 500 media outlets from different countries will cover the event, allowing them to showcase the state’s natural, tourist, and sporting attractions.

The Secretary of Tourism, Elisa Haro Ruiz, reported that the competition will consist of four stages held on November 13, 14, 15, and 16. He detailed that registrations are progressing well and that there are currently more than 200 registered participants, of whom approximately 70 percent are international, coming from countries such as Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, Chile, and Argentina.

He explained that Durango was chosen for its ideal conditions for mountain biking and the diverse natural landscapes the state offers. The routes will primarily traverse the municipalities of Durango and Nombre de Dios, as well as the mountainous region, where competitors will face physically and technically demanding courses.

In addition to the competition itself, an economic impact of nearly 300 million pesos is expected, benefiting service providers, businesses, and communities located along the routes. Haro Ruiz added that the routes will remain available as a year-round tourism product for those who wish to experience the Titan Desert at any time of year.

Finally, Esteban Villegas reported that the agreement with the organizers was signed until 2028, so Durango will host this competition for the next few years, consolidating itself as a benchmark destination for mountain biking in Mexico and North America.
