The mosquito fumigation campaign aimed at reducing mosquito populations throughout the municipality will begin this month with operations starting in Cabo San Lucas, followed by San José del Cabo.

The 2026 Fumigation Campaign seeks to reduce the presence of mosquitoes that transmit dengue, Zika, and chikungunya, according to Municipal Health Coordinator Adán Monroy Justo.

He explained that the campaign will be carried out in two-week phases in each municipal district. The first phase will take place in Cabo San Lucas, where fumigation crews will operate from July 6–10 and July 13–22. Once that phase is completed, operations will continue for two weeks in San José del Cabo.

Recommendations for Residents

The Municipal Health Coordinator emphasized that the success of the campaign also depends on public participation. Residents are encouraged to follow these recommendations when the fumigation vehicles pass through their neighborhoods:

  • Open doors and windows so the fumigation treatment can circulate inside homes.
  • Inspect yards and remove any containers holding standing water, as they serve as mosquito breeding sites.
  • Keep daily-use water storage containers, such as cisterns, water tanks, and barrels, properly covered.

Health authorities also noted that fumigation will take place during the hours when mosquitoes are most active and asked residents to be aware of the fumigation vehicles as they pass through their communities.

Campaign Objective

The goal of the campaign is to reach as many homes as possible and help reduce the risk of dengue, Zika, and chikungunya during the rainy season.
