Did everyone fall asleep? Well, it turns out there was a “Mexican serenade” outside England’s hotel, thanks to an influencer. Here’s who was responsible for bringing New Year’s Eve-style fireworks to the opposing team’s headquarters. Some members of the English press even wanted arrests.
As happened before the match against Ecuador, on the eve of the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 match between Mexico and England, a noisy “serenade” took place with the explicit intention of disrupting the English players’ rest. However, it was smaller in scale and farther from the players’ rooms.
The gathering took place near the JW hotel in the Santa Fe area, where the British team was staying. Although a strong security presence had been reported throughout the day and appeared to discourage large crowds, a small group still showed up.
Who Was the Influencer Behind the ‘Mexican Serenade’?
The person responsible for the commotion was influencer Adriano Zendejas, better known online as “Maestro Shifu.” He brought fireworks and pyrotechnics, which were the main tools used to create noise.
He also used a batucada band, drums, and chants supporting the Mexican National Team to keep the atmosphere loud. Around 2:00 a.m., fans filled the Santa Fe area with drums, trumpets, and fireworks.
Police officers attempted to block the influencer and his group’s access in an effort to stop the disturbance. Viral videos show the moment authorities blocked their path.
According to videos and eyewitness accounts shared on social media, Adriano Zendejas’ vehicle was struck during the police maneuver. This prompted the influencer to get out of the car and angrily confront the officers.
A reporter from England arrived outside the hotel and, after witnessing the serenade, asked police whether those involved could be arrested. Officers reportedly replied that they would simply extend the security barricade rather than detain anyone.
Zendejas was born on March 19, 1996, and is the brother of actress Samadhi Zendejas. He is now a Mexican public figure who successfully transitioned from a traditional acting career to becoming a prominent digital content creator.
He began his television career appearing in telenovelas such as Marina, Juro que te amo, and La fuerza del destino. He also appeared in anthology series including La rosa de Guadalupe and Como dice el dicho, and participated alongside his sister in the program Así se baila. The Controversies Surrounding ‘Maestro Shifu’
In November 2025, Zendejas and singer “El Bogueto” organized a large public gathering at the Monumento a la Revolución to give away caps and host a motorcycle ride. The event resulted in:
- Traffic chaos and vandalism: Attendance far exceeded expectations, overwhelming the area.
- Pedestrian accident: A driver attempting to escape the crowd struck five people, who suffered abrasions and multiple injuries.
- Police action: Nearly 100 motorcycles were impounded, and three people were arrested in connection with the incident.
- Public apology: Zendejas later apologized publicly, acknowledging that the situation had gotten out of control.
