At least three men were shot and killed Thursday night; Santiago Pinotepa ranks among the municipalities in the state of Oaxaca with the highest number of homicides, according to the Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office.
In the wave of violence plaguing Afro-Mexican communities on the Oaxaca coast, Jassiel S. V., a doctor from San Juan Cacahuatepec, located in the coastal region of Oaxaca, was murdered Thursday night, July 2.
According to initial security reports, the young man was leaving a gym when armed men intercepted him and shot him repeatedly until he died.
Two other men were also victims of homicide. The first body was found on the highway leading from Pinotepa Nacional to the community of El Añil. The incidents were reported around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2.
Minutes later, on the bypass of the municipal seat of Pinotepa Nacional, next to the California Bar heading towards Santa María Jicaltepec, another man was shot and killed.
This same Thursday, the death of a 17-year-old was confirmed. He had been wounded by gunfire in an attack by armed individuals on Wednesday, July 1st, on Heroico Colegio Militar Avenue, near the well-known Puente Roto (Broken Bridge), in the municipal seat of Pinotepa.
According to the monthly crime statistics from the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office (FGEO), Pinotepa Nacional, Juchitán de Zaragoza, and Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz are the three municipalities with the highest number of homicides in the state.
In May alone, 20 victims were recorded in the municipality of Pinotepa Nacional and 27 in Juchitán de Zaragoza.
