Tania Flores Guerra, former mayor of Múzquiz, Coahuila, was arrested this Saturday by officers of the Nuevo León State Attorney General’s Office in San Pedro Garza García while executing an arrest warrant issued against her.
The Nuevo León Attorney General’s Office reported that the arrest was carried out by detectives from the State Investigation Agency (AEI) in coordination with investigative authorities from Coahuila. She is accused of embezzlement and abuse of official authority.
According to her arrest record, Tania Flores Guerra was taken into custody at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, on Batallón de San Patricio Street in the San Agustín neighborhood.
At the time of her arrest, the former mayor was wearing a black blouse, beige pants, and beige shoes.
Transferred to Coahuila

The Nuevo León Attorney General’s Office stated that after her arrest, Flores Guerra was transferred to a correctional facility in Coahuila, where she will continue the legal proceedings related to the charges against her.
According to reports, her initial court hearing is scheduled for Thursday, July 9. Flores Guerra, who served as mayor of Múzquiz from 2022 to 2024, will remain in pretrial detention while the proceedings continue.
Previously Charged With Abuse of Official Authority
In December 2025, Tania Flores Guerra was formally charged for her alleged responsibility in the crime of abuse of official authority following a hearing at the Saltillo Criminal Justice Center in Coahuila.
During that hearing, Judge María Galindo Hernández ruled that there was sufficient evidence for the criminal case to proceed and established a two-month period for the complementary investigation, with the possibility of extending it to six months.
That investigation focused on alleged irregularities during her administration involving suspected improper municipal service contracts. The case remains unresolved.

Tania Flores and Her Brother Antonio Were Arrested in June After Failing to Comply With a Security Checkpoint
During the early morning of June 9, Tania Flores Guerra and her brother Antonio Flores, a local deputy representing the Labor Party (PT), were arrested following a police pursuit.
State Attorney General Federico Fernández Montañez said the incident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m., when state and municipal officers spotted an armored vehicle traveling at excessive speed on a state highway.
After officers attempted to stop the vehicle and requested identification, Antonio and Tania Flores reportedly approached the unit, got into the vehicle, and left the scene.
According to the attorney general:
“Eight kilometers later they were stopped. They allegedly insulted the officers, prevented them from conducting an inspection, and after the threats and insults, they were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor so the legal process could continue.”
Following their arrest for allegedly insulting authorities, the siblings were later released while investigations into the incident continued.
Fernández Montañez emphasized that all individuals, regardless of whether they hold public office, are required to comply with lawful security inspections conducted by law enforcement officers.
After being released, the Flores siblings claimed during a live social media broadcast that security officers had physically assaulted them and subjected them to unlawful treatment during the arrest.
