Baja California and Nuevo León reported positive performance in formal job creation during the first half of 2026, adding 76,048 and 40,199 positions, respectively, according to figures from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) released by both governments.

These results placed both states among those with the most dynamic job markets in the country. Baja California reported the highest number of new insured workers during the first half of the year, while Nuevo León stood out, accounting for 15.3% of all new jobs created in Mexico, equivalent to one out of every six formal positions.

Baja California reached 1,070,951 workers affiliated with the IMSS at the end of June. Compared to the same month in 2025, the state added 55,041 workers, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.4%.

At the municipal level, Tijuana saw the greatest increase, with 42,589 new insured workers, followed by Mexicali, with 31,154. By economic activity, the greatest growth was observed in Social and Community Services and the Construction Industry, while Transportation and Communications was the only sector that registered a decrease in the number of jobs.

Meanwhile, Nuevo León reported the addition of 40,199 formal workers between January and June 2026, a figure 42.5% higher than that of the same period in 2025, when 28,195 jobs were added.

During June, the state added 1,633 new positions. The state administration attributed this performance to the arrival of investments, the expansion of existing companies, the dynamism of the manufacturing industry, and the confidence of the productive sector.

In the country, 262,628 formal jobs were created during the first half of 2026, while 61,023 jobs were added in June, according to data cited by state authorities.
