The state leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Guillermo Valencia Reyes, backed the intention to form a broad opposition bloc bringing together the PRI, PAN, Movimiento Ciudadano and the Movimiento del Sombrero.
The PRI state leader, who is also a local legislator, made his position clear by stating that the National Action Party (PAN), Movimiento Ciudadano (MC), and the Movimiento del Sombrero could form a broad coalition with the goal of defeating Morena in the next election.
The PRI leader said that opposition political forces will have to confront several factors, including what he described as ties between organized crime and the Obradorist party.

He also claimed that the party in power had “stormed” the Michoacán Electoral Institute (IEM) and is now waiting to appoint “tailor-made” electoral councilors who could favor its interests during the electoral process.
He added the social programs distributed by the Federal Government as another factor that, in his view, the opposition will have to contend with.
Nevertheless, he considered that there is a favorable possibility if all political forces manage to move forward together with the Movimiento del Sombrero.
“There is no benefit in an independent movement simply being well known if it doesn’t have a party, a party structure that can help mobilize voters, because elections aren’t won with likes. If they were won with likes, I would have been mayor in 2021. Elections are won with votes, but beyond votes, you need to regain polling-station representatives who can also help protect those votes,” he stated.

In this regard, he explained that both the Movimiento del Sombrero and MC lack enough polling-station representatives to defend the votes they receive in an election.
“But if we join PRI, PAN, MC and the independent movement, do the math—we’re going up,” he said.
The PRI leader also claimed that the mayor of Uruapan has experienced considerable growth, stating that according to his data, at least 48 percent of those surveyed know her, which he considered favorable for her political aspirations.
Meanwhile, he argued that one of the favorable factors for Morelia Mayor Alfonso Martínez Alcázar is that he has consistently managed to reverse poll results.
He said this possibility could become stronger if opposition parties manage to form a common bloc.
“And there are many people in Morena who don’t like Morón, and many who don’t like Torres Piña. They’re going at each other, and I see the governor closer to Alfonso Martínez than to any of his candidates,” he said.
It should be noted that this is the first time the state leaders of the PRI and PAN have publicly agreed on a similar position, highlighting the possibility of moving toward the formation of a broad opposition bloc against the Fourth Transformation.
