Adán Augusto anticipates a fierce campaign in Tabasco and believes Andy should opt for a multi-member district.

This Tuesday, in some conversations, Senator Adán Augusto López Hernández, who is close to López Obrador’s son, suggested that Andy should consider securing his seat in the Chamber of Deputies through a proportional representation candidacy.

The former governor understands that López Beltrán could be affected both by the poor performance of Javier May—who is among the lowest-rated governors in the country—and by Morena’s internal conflicts, where the loss of the visa has intensified tensions among local figures who reject Andy’s growing influence.

These divisions also extend into the family sphere. In Villahermosa, it has been suggested that state Secretary of Government José Ramiro López Obrador was the person who encouraged José Ramón, Andy’s brother, to post the photographs on social media appearing to confirm that he still has a visa. José Ramiro has yet to give up his ambition to become governor in favor of his nephew’s political project.

The possibility of Governor May himself harboring resentment has also not been ruled out. He could potentially maneuver to ensure that López Beltrán performs poorly in the election, based on the calculation that a defeat in Tabasco would be a point of no return for the former Morena secretary.

The governor, for his part, fears that Andy, with support from Palenque, could push him to resign simply so that the local Congress could elevate Andy to the governorship before 2030. Three weeks ago, he had to publicly dismiss this possibility.
