A coordinated operation involving federal and state security forces resulted in the arrest of six alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the dismantling of the criminal cell known as “Jalipa.”

Authorities identified the group as one of the main drivers of violence in the port city of Manzanillo.

The Operation

The State Coordination Board for Peace and Security Building reported that the arrests were the result of operations carried out by the Mexican Navy, in coordination with the State Preventive Police, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

How Were the Suspected Gunmen Arrested?

According to authorities, several days earlier the alleged members of the criminal group had managed to evade an initial security operation.

However, law enforcement agencies continued monitoring their movements until they located them again and carried out their arrest during two separate operations in different areas of the municipality.

During the first operation, Pedro “N,” 38, and Diego “N,” 29, were arrested for their alleged involvement in attempted homicide and violations of the Federal Firearms and Explosives Law.

Authorities also seized a 9mm pistol and a .380 caliber revolver during the operation.

Later, in a second operation, authorities arrested Carlos Alberto “N,” 22; Efrén Alejandro “N,” 20; Aylín Viridiana “N,” 19; and Jesús Osvaldo “N,” 22. The first two suspects are originally from Guadalajara.

According to intelligence information, the four allegedly operated as hitmen for the “Jalipa” criminal cell, which is believed to be linked to several violent incidents that have occurred in Manzanillo.

During this operation, authorities seized two long guns, three 9mm pistols, as well as .223 caliber and 9mm ammunition.

All six suspects were turned over to the appropriate authorities while investigations continue to determine their possible involvement in other crimes and to establish their legal status.
