Historic and unanimous! The Electoral Tribunal of Michoacán (TEEMich) has just dealt a severe legal blow to Morena Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña, declaring him guilty of committing political violence based on gender against the mayor of Uruapan, Grecia Quiroz.
The electoral court showed no mercy and applied one of the sanctions most feared by politicians: he will be registered for six months in the National Registry of Persons Sanctioned for Political Violence Against Women!
What triggered this political bombshell? Here’s a breakdown of the events:
📌 The attacks: In late 2025, Noroña used his YouTube channel to attack Quiroz, calling her “irresponsible,” “fascist,” and driven by “ambition.” This occurred after the mayor demanded an investigation into political figures following the tragic murder of her husband, former mayor Carlos Manzo.
📌 The true intention: The Court discovered that the senator’s words were not simply a debate. His real goal was to destroy the official’s reputation to derail her path to the Michoacán governorship in 2027.
📌 The full punishment: Besides being registered as an offender, the Senate has already been notified, and Noroña will be obligated to offer a public apology and comply with reparations measures for the victim.
📌 The legal setback: The senator tried to get away with it by arguing “censorship,” and initially, the local court dismissed the case because the mayor was appointed by Congress and not elected by popular vote. However, the Regional Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF) intervened, taking a firm stance and warning that every woman in power deserves respect, regardless of how she came to hold office.
The scandal is already igniting social media! 👇 What do you think of this historic sanction? Justice or persecution?
