Highway Alert! 8 out of 10 cargo truck robberies are violent
The delegate of the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) in southern Tamaulipas, Armando Josef Martínez Ale, reported that cargo truck robberies continue to be one of the sector’s main security concerns, especially on highways in other states.
He indicated that, according to Canacar’s national statistics, more than 1,200 cargo truck robberies and more than a dozen driver kidnappings were recorded during the first half of the year.
Veracruz and San Luis Potosí are among the most affected states
Regarding truckers affiliated with the Tampico branch, he noted that an average of three to four robberies are reported each year, primarily when their vehicles are traveling on highways in states like San Luis Potosí and Veracruz.
The leader explained that these crimes occur outside of Tamaulipas, where drivers are robbed of their vehicles and, in some cases, held captive for several hours while the criminals steal the merchandise.
