The economic impact of the FIFA World Cup in Mexico City was 22.678 billion pesos, reported the local National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco), which is 3.602 billion pesos less than the 26.280 billion pesos projected by the same organization in April 2026.

The business organization presented a preliminary report on the economic impact of the World Cup; in some areas, the figures were similar to those estimated before the start of the matches in the nation’s capital.

It was reported that 1.1 million tourists arrived in Mexico City to enjoy the 2026 World Cup, with an average expenditure of up to 22,500 pesos per visitor; Canaco had previously estimated 1.168 million tourists. The average expenditure per person remained the same.

The head of the organization, Vicente Gutiérrez Camposeco, stated that approximately 80,000 jobs were created; whereas prior to the start of the sporting event, Canado herself estimated that there would be between 70,000 and 90,000 jobs during this period.

The sectors that benefited most were tourism, hospitality, commerce, handicrafts sales, restaurants, and bars, among others.

“The service sector has been the most dynamic, with the estimated creation of 80,000 temporary jobs in the capital, related to customer service, logistics, transportation, and commerce,” he specified.

Gutiérrez Camposeco thanked the Mexico City government, particularly those responsible for maintenance, cleaning, and security.

He also thanked the business owners for the “positive results for restaurants, bars, hotels, shops, service providers, and employees in the sector.”
