Governor Alfonso Durazo and federal authorities are coordinating preventative and response actions in anticipation of rains and tropical cyclones.
To better protect Sonoran families during the rainy and tropical cyclone season, Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño, along with the National Coordinator of Civil Protection, Laura Velázquez Alzúa, presided over the State Civil Protection Council session and the establishment of the Command Post, where preventative and emergency response actions will be coordinated throughout the state.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting the lives, property, and safety of Sonoran families through a strategy based on coordination among the three levels of government.
“We shouldn’t wait for nature to force us to prioritize civil protection in our daily lives. We must work every day to find solutions, facing this challenge with a focus on prevention, rather than simply reacting,” he emphasized.
For his part, Velázquez Alzúa emphasized the importance of maintaining joint mechanisms with the Government of Sonora regarding civil protection to safeguard the well-being of families in emergency situations, and thanked Governor Durazo for his support in addressing and preventing risks to the population.
“We are coordinated. We are preparing; the preparedness of the Government of Mexico, the State of Sonora, and the 72 municipalities is in place to serve the population,” he stated.
During the session, joint actions were established to address the risks associated with the rainy season, including flooding, strong winds, and landslides, in addition to strengthening prevention, monitoring, and timely response mechanisms in the most vulnerable municipalities.
The areas at highest risk, response protocols, and the actions to be implemented by state and federal agencies, the Armed Forces, and the 72 municipalities to safeguard the population were also reviewed.
The installation of the Command Post will strengthen communication between the institutions responsible for responding to emergencies, allowing for rapid decision-making and coordinated deployment of personnel and equipment when needed.
Authorities from all three levels of government, as well as the mayors of the state’s 72 municipalities, were present at the event.
