As one of the outcomes of the agreements reached at the Coordination Meeting for the Tourism Relaunch of Tulum, the governments of Mexico and Quintana Roo, in coordination with Mexicana de Aviación, launched a joint strategy to strengthen air connectivity and boost demand for Tulum.
This action reflects Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s vision of strengthening national connectivity as a tool to drive regional development, consolidate new markets, and leverage the country’s strategic infrastructure.
In Quintana Roo, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa is promoting a comprehensive strategy to strengthen Tulum’s positioning, based on coordination among the three levels of government, the Federal Ministry of Tourism, headed by Josefina Rodríguez, and the private sector, with the goal of translating connectivity into higher hotel occupancy rates, economic benefits, and improved well-being for families.
As part of this strategy, eight additional Mexicana de Aviación flights were announced for July and August, supported by a nationwide promotional campaign.
The campaign will run throughout the summer and fall seasons and will subsequently be evaluated to make any necessary adjustments and ensure its continuation into the winter season.
The marketing strategy is primarily aimed at the Mexico City Metropolitan Area, the State of Mexico, and Hidalgo, with a special focus on high-spending segments.
To strengthen this strategy, a direct sales campaign will be implemented, integrating the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council’s (CPTQ) Vacation Specials platform, which currently features over 200 Quintana Roo hotels offering exclusive promotions.
As part of this effort, the State Government, through the CPTQ, developed and provided Mexicana de Aviación with creative materials and a national advertising campaign across digital, print, radio, and television media to promote flights to Tulum and Chetumal free of charge, thus expanding the campaign’s reach.
The participating institutions agreed that the hotel sector’s involvement will be crucial to capitalizing on this promotional investment, incorporating competitive offers that will increase flight occupancy and generate greater economic benefits for the destination.
It was also announced that, during the month of August, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa will lead a meeting with more than 300 travel agents from the Mexico City Metropolitan Area, with the aim of strengthening the marketing of the Mexican Caribbean, the Vacation Capital of the World.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, Bernardo Cueto; the Deputy Director of Sales for Mexicana de Aviación, Luis Mendieta; the Undersecretary of Tourism, Pablo Casas; the Director of Promotion for the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), Jorge Luis Téllez; and the Director of Tourism for the municipality of Tulum, Haydé Hernández, as well as representatives from the business sector of the municipality of Tulum.
