The Hidalgo 2040 Strategic Plan proposes strengthening the Huasteca region’s economy through investments in tourism, infrastructure, and agro-industrial development, with projects focused on leveraging the region’s natural, cultural, and agricultural wealth.
The Huasteca region of Hidalgo is emerging as one of the key areas for Hidalgo’s economic development thanks to a long-term strategy that seeks to enhance its tourism and agricultural potential, while addressing historical shortcomings in infrastructure and services.
Within the Hidalgo 2040 Strategic Plan, the state government envisions a series of projects aimed at generating new opportunities for producers, merchants, and tourism service providers, taking advantage of the extensive natural, cultural, and gastronomic heritage that distinguishes this area of the state.
The head of the Hidalgo Planning and Strategic Planning Unit, Miguel Ángel Tello Vargas, emphasized that the Huasteca region is a priority due to its cultural diversity, the presence of indigenous communities, and its potential to drive sustainable economic growth.
One of the most important projects involves creating a tourist route connecting municipalities in the Huasteca region with the Sierra Alta, allowing visitors to explore natural landscapes, rivers, mountains, and communities with a strong cultural identity, thus strengthening regional tourism.
In the agricultural sector, the plan includes the establishment of a Citrus and Apiculture Research Center, whose objective will be to improve the genetic quality of crops, increase productivity, and provide local producers with technological tools to enhance their competitiveness.
Authorities believe that Hidalgo has favorable conditions to consolidate its position as a leading producer of citrus fruits and honey, which would diversify the regional economy and generate greater opportunities for farming families.
The official assessment also acknowledges that, despite its enormous natural and productive wealth, the Huasteca region faces challenges related to infrastructure, connectivity, and access to services—aspects that the Hidalgo 2040 Strategic Plan seeks to address through strategic investments.
With these actions, the state government is committed to a development model that combines the conservation of cultural and environmental heritage with the strengthening of tourism, agro-industry and economic growth in one of the most emblematic regions of Hidalgo.
