The 2026 World Cup isn’t even in the rearview mirror — and we’re already coming for MORE.
This morning, President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that Mexico is officially analyzing a bid to host the 2029 FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP — the tournament that brings the best clubs from every continent to one country, from European giants to South American powerhouses.
The proposal was pushed by Mikel Arriola, head of the FMF. And the case is stronger than people realize:
🏟️ THREE STADIUMS ALREADY WORLD CUP-TESTED:
- Estadio Azteca (CDMX) — the frontrunner to host the FINAL
- BBVA Stadium (Monterrey)
- Akron Stadium (Guadalajara)
Infrastructure? Donate. Hotels? Donate. Airports? Donate. We just proved it in 2026.
And here’s what nobody’s talking about: TWO MEXICAN CLUBS ARE ALREADY IN. Cruz Azul qualified by winning Concachampions 2025. Toluca just qualified by winning Concachampions 2026 on penalties over Tigres at the Nemesio Díez. That means La Maquina AND Los Diablos Rojos will be at the 2029 Club World Cup — and if Mexico wins the host bid, they’d be playing on home soil. 🇲🇽🔥
The competition is real — Brazil already pitched Gianni Infantino personally, and Qatar, the USA, Germany, Australia and a joint Spain–Morocco bid are all circulating. But nobody in that group has what Mexico has: the 2026 World Cup infrastructure, PLUS the joint 2031 Women’s World Cup bid, PLUS the Sub-20 Premundial. FIFA has already trusted us with three tournaments in six years.
Sheinbaum was smart about it: she wants to review the tourism and economic impact of the 2026 World Cup FIRST before committing. Her words: “Conditions have to be favorable for Mexico.” No blank checks — just the right deal for the country.
And if FIFA expands the tournament from 32 to 48 teams — which is on the table — the case for a country with our stadium capacity gets even stronger.
Aztec Stadium. The Club World Cup Final. 2029.
Let’s go. 🔥🇲🇽
