Dozens of families who were victims of forced displacement by organized crime, coming from the municipalities of Moris and Uruachi, protested this morning in the Pensiones Civiles neighborhood in the city of Cuauhtémoc, demanding that the government of Chihuahua provide them with housing.
The demonstrators requested, through a public letter addressed to Governor María Eugenia Campos Galván, the intervention of the State Housing, Land, and Infrastructure Commission (Coesvi) so that they could be assigned the unoccupied houses located in that neighborhood.
The displaced families stated that the Pensiones Civiles neighborhood, which is owned by the state government, was sold to a real estate company, while they have been prevented from occupying the homes.
“We want them to provide us with support through a housing program because we cannot return to our municipality due to crime.”
They recalled that on February 8 of this year, they attempted to occupy some of the houses, but they were evicted by police officers.
“We have already approached different state agencies, including Coesvi, and no one wants to take responsibility. We want an answer. We believe it is unfair that these homes, which were owned by the state government, were sold even though there are displaced families without a home.”
They also asked President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo for support so they would no longer remain invisible.
“We are not seeking privileges, but rather the fulfillment of our right to safe housing and to live with dignity.”
