A woman identified as Alicia “N”, who allegedly posed as a doctor, was arrested by authorities in Querétaro after amputating one of a patient’s toes, a procedure that ultimately led to the loss of the patient’s entire left leg.

What Did the Fake Doctor Do in Santa María Magdalena, Querétaro?

Alicia “N” was reportedly a nurse who presented herself as a physician while treating patients at a property operating as a medical office in the Santa María Magdalena neighborhood of Querétaro City.

In May 2026, she treated a patient who was experiencing pain in the left big toe. After examining the patient, Alicia “N” allegedly stated that the toe needed to be amputated.

She then performed the amputation without preoperative examinations, without operating room conditions, and without the necessary qualifications to perform a surgical procedure of that complexity.

Following the improperly performed procedure, the patient developed severe complications and was admitted to a hospital as an emergency case. In order to save the patient’s life, medical specialists had no choice but to amputate the entire left leg.

Authorities Charge Fake Doctor

The patient filed a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Querétaro (FGE).

As part of the investigation, authorities executed a search warrant at Alicia “N”’s clinic, where they seized:

  • Medications
  • Medical records
  • Documentation
  • Medical equipment
  • Electronic devices

Authorities later arrested Alicia “N.” She has been formally charged with practicing a profession without legal authorization and intentional bodily injury.

If convicted, the fake doctor could face a prison sentence exceeding 12 years.
