In two timely and coordinated interventions, members of the Aquatic Rescue Squad successfully rescued nine swimmers who were struggling to get out of the water due to strong waves on the morning of Sunday, July 26, 2026.
According to an official statement from the Municipal Public Security Secretariat (SSPM), the first intervention occurred in the Cerritos area, where four Mazatlán residents who were fishing were caught off guard by a wave that knocked them down and dragged them out to sea, putting their safety at risk.
The second rescue took place at Playa Sábalo I, where five people, including two minors, were pulled out to sea by the waves, but the prompt action of the lifeguards was crucial in rescuing them and bringing them safely to shore.
Gustavo Espinoza Bastidas, commander of the Aquatic Rescue Squad, reported that all individuals received medical evaluations on site, and only one required paramedic assistance. After being stabilized, this person remained at the scene without needing to be transported.
Commander Espinoza Bastidas urged beachgoers to maintain preventative measures, as the effects of the swell continue to generate high waves and rip currents in various areas.
He recommended following the instructions of lifeguards at all times and respecting the signage installed on the beaches to prevent accidents.
