Members of the Querétaro con Justicia collective are promoting the legal initiative known as “Alberto’s Law,” a proposed reform to the Penal Code that seeks to more strictly define and punish false accusations and manipulation of the judicial system. This measure arises in direct response to the demand for justice following the death of Professor Alberto, who allegedly took his own life after enduring a grueling legal process stemming from an unfounded accusation.
The proposal, formally announced at a press conference, is the result of several months of collaborative work between citizen advocates and various state agencies, including the State Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of the Interior, the DIF (National System for Integral Family Development), and the Office of the Attorney for the Protection of Children and Adolescents. This inter-institutional effort aims to guarantee procedural fairness and prevent the mechanisms of justice from being instrumentalized or used as a means to obtain undue advantages in litigation.
In concrete terms, the “Alberto Law” proposes substantial modifications to punish not only those who initiate criminal proceedings based on deliberately false facts, but also those who consciously participate in the fabrication of evidence or accusations lacking veracity, thus safeguarding the integrity of those involved and legal certainty.
