The Southern Zone Lawyers’ Association launched a strong accusation against the justice system in Veracruz. They assert that, following the judicial reform, guilty parties are being fabricated, investigation files are being sold, and due process is being violated.
Lawyers Raymundo Mendoza Rustrián, Tomás Mundo Arriasa, and Marco Antonio Rodríguez Ventura stated that the elected judges are acting out of fear of Governor Rocío Nahle, which, they claim, has led to the subjugation of the Judiciary to the Executive branch.
They also denounced that during some raids, authorities allegedly take advantage of the situation to steal citizens’ belongings, and warned that lawyers themselves could become targets of the government for practicing their profession.
The lawyers described the judicial reform as a failure and announced that they will continue holding meetings to document and denounce alleged abuses and acts of corruption within the Veracruz justice system.
