The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Congratulates Mexican Authorities on the Arrest of “R1”
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) congratulated Mexican authorities on Friday for the “successful operation and arrest” of Ramón Ángel “N”, alias “R1,” identified as the alleged mastermind behind the murder of former Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo and accused of leading a criminal cell linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
In a post on its official X account, the DEA quoted Terrance Cole, the agency’s current administrator, who congratulated Mexico’s Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and the Mexican Army Special Forces for their work.
Last Thursday, SSPC Secretary Omar García Harfuch announced the arrest of Ramón Ángel “N”, alias “R1,” who is accused of being the intellectual author of the murder of Carlos Manzo, which occurred on November 1, 2025, in the historic downtown area of Uruapan during the Day of the Dead festival.
The secretary stated that the arrest followed months of investigative work and was carried out through a joint operation between the SSPC and the Mexican Army Special Forces, using intelligence provided by the National Intelligence Center.
He also stated that Ramón Ángel “N” is identified as the main leader of “Los Rs,” one of the most violent criminal cells linked to the CJNG, operating in Apatzingán, Uruapan, Morelia (Michoacán), and Jalisco.
According to the secretary, the group is involved in extortion, homicides, and drug trafficking, directly affecting producers, business owners, and families throughout the region.
He further emphasized that, with the arrest of “R1,” a total of 31 people have now been detained in connection with the murder of Carlos Manzo. He added that the operation is part of the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice, which seeks to combat extortion and weaken criminal organizations through intelligence, investigation, and coordinated law enforcement efforts.
