Local legislator Nancy Frías, representing the National Action Party (PAN) in the Congress of Chihuahua, publicly condemned Morena’s parliamentary group for voting against an urgent legislative exhortation aimed at compelling the Federal Government to strengthen strategies against internal forced displacement. The proposal sought to address the severe crisis affecting families—particularly in rural and indigenous communities within the Sierra Tarahumara—who are forced to abandon their homes due to escalating violence.
According to the congresswoman, the rejected initiative urged for tighter coordination between federal, state, and municipal authorities to guarantee continuous public security, humanitarian aid, damage reparations, and safe returns for displaced citizens. Frías emphasized that victims not only lose their residences but also their livelihoods, heritage, and basic services. While noting that the state government has delivered approximately 8,500 support packages since late 2024, she stressed that local resources are insufficient to tackle a crisis of this magnitude without a comprehensive national policy led by the Federation.
The legislative rejection has sparked sharp debate among local political factions regarding the responsibility of federal institutions in protecting vulnerable communities and managing the growing humanitarian challenges associated with regional violence.
