The ninth generation of the Toyota Hilux has arrived in Mexico, featuring a major redesign, platform improvements, and gasoline or diesel engine configurations, aiming to remain the sales leader in its segment and continue being Toyota’s best-selling vehicle in the country.

From a design perspective, the new Hilux continues with the brand’s current design language, featuring straight lines, sharp angles, and a style based around a rectangular front grille. One detail that stands out is the absence of the traditional brand logo; instead, the word “Toyota” appears above the grille, positioned between the redesigned front headlights. These headlights feature LED main lighting and, depending on the version, combine traditional incandescent bulbs for the remaining lights.

Overall, the design looks strong and modern, closely following the style seen in models such as the Tundra and Tacoma. It is also worth highlighting that the cargo bed comes equipped with a bedliner, as well as tie-down hooks to secure loads and a built-in area for installing a trailer hitch.

Toyota Hilux 2027: Powertrains

Toyota decided to offer three engine configurations.

The first two versions (Double Cab Base and Double Cab SR) are equipped with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 164 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.

The third version is the Diesel 4×4 Manual (the model shown in the article’s images), which features a 2.8-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine producing 201 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. In 2H mode, power is sent to the rear wheels, while in 4H and 4L modes, power is distributed to both axles.

At the top of the lineup is the Diesel 4×4 Automatic MHEV, which combines the 2.8-liter turbo diesel engine with mild-hybrid technology. Thanks to a small 48-volt electric motor, the vehicle increases starting torque to 369 lb-ft.

Toyota states that the diesel engines use a variable-geometry turbocharger, which improves low-rpm response and reduces turbo lag.

Toyota Hilux 2027: Dimensions and Weight

This midsize pickup continues to use Toyota’s IMV (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle) platform, which debuted with the seventh-generation Hilux in 2004 and has received improvements with every generation.

The truck maintains a body-on-frame construction, meaning the body is mounted onto a ladder-type chassis.

The dimensions remain almost identical to the previous generation:

  • Length: 5.32 meters
  • Width: 1.85 meters
  • Height: between 1.79 and 1.81 meters, depending on the version
  • Wheelbase: 3.08 meters
  • Ground clearance: 31.2 centimeters

The approach angle is 29 degrees at the front and 25 degrees at the rear.

  • Towing capacity: 750 kilograms (available only on diesel versions)

The rear suspension uses a solid axle with shock absorbers and leaf springs, improving durability and control when carrying heavy loads.

Depending on the version, the Hilux offers several comfort and convenience features, including leather-wrapped steering wheel and seats, covered dashboard cup holders, additional storage space in front of the passenger, one- or two-zone automatic climate control, keyless ignition, and different driving modes.

Standard equipment across the lineup includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a four- or eight-speaker audio system.
