El KFC pirata de Nuevo Laredo habría cerrado sus puertas después de meses de controversia entre clientes y la international brand. The establishment located on Avenida Reforma began showing activity this Wednesday after opening its facilities, although no products were found inside.
The facade still displays the official Kentucky Fried Chicken logo, although the colors appear faded due to exposure to the border region’s sunlight. The open doors raised questions about whether the property will be abandoned or undergo renovations after the departure of the business that operated there.
What happened with the locations identified as unauthorized KFC restaurants?
Since early 2025, consumers began reporting changes in restaurants identified as KFC locations in Nuevo Laredo. Complaints increased due to service failures, changes in products, and a different presentation from what customers expected from the international chain.
Customers pointed out that the establishments stopped displaying several characteristic elements of the franchise. During their final weeks of operation, food was served in generic packaging, along with other details that raised doubts about whether the businesses were officially operating under the brand.
What did KFC say about its presence in Nuevo Laredo?
The company informed users that it does not have any commercial or operational relationship with restaurants using its name in the city. The company explained that there is no agreement in place and that any service provided by those establishments is not connected to the brand.
The controversy increased after users shared videos and comments on social media about their purchases. One user questioned changes in the food, such as side dishes, and compared the experience with products different from those normally offered by the chain.
Online activity also generated uncertainty. The Facebook page stopped publishing official promotions after October 2025, while Google Maps continued showing some locations as open, increasing confusion among customers.
