Homicides in Mexico Decreased by 51% Between September 2024 and July 2026, Claudia Sheinbaum Reports
Homicides in Mexico decreased by 51% between September 2024 and July 2026, according to the crime statistics report presented Tuesday by the federal government.
During her morning press conference on August 11, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted the reduction in intentional homicides and stated that the current figure represents approximately half of the level recorded at the beginning of her administration.
“The reduction in intentional homicide is 51% between September 2024 and July 2026. In 22 months, the reduction in intentional homicide is half of what we received,” she stated.
Homicides in Mexico Reach a 22-Month Low
Marcela Figueroa Franco, head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, presented the figures for July and highlighted that the month recorded the lowest daily average of the period analyzed.
In July, an average of 42.5 intentional homicides per day was recorded, compared with the 86.9 daily homicides recorded in September 2024.
The difference represents 44 fewer intentional homicides per day compared with the beginning of the period considered by authorities.
Figueroa explained that the figures correspond to the first 22 months of the current federal administration and include data accumulated through July 31, 2026.
Sheinbaum Highlights Reduction in Homicides
The president stated that these results are part of the security strategy implemented by her administration and highlighted the evolution of this crime over the past several months.
The report presented at the National Palace shows that homicides in Mexico have maintained a downward trend compared with the levels recorded at the beginning of the current administration.
Federal authorities will continue monitoring crime statistics to evaluate the behavior of high-impact crimes across the different states of the country.
