Morena defends AMLO’s son after U.S. visa cancellation
The Morena leadership defended Andrés Manuel López Beltrán following the withdrawal of his U.S. visa and accused the U.S. government of “intimidating those who firmly defend Mexico’s sovereignty.”
The party echoed President Claudia Sheinbaum’s message, stating that the cancellation of ‘Andy’ López Beltrán’s visa is an act of U.S. interference in Mexico’s politics.
“The cancellation of visas for politically exposed persons does not constitute evidence that any crime or irregularity has been committed,” Morena stated in a communiqué on Friday, August 14.
Morena called on the administration of Donald Trump to maintain “mutual respect, cooperation, and coordination” in its relationship with the government of Claudia Sheinbaum.
“Our country cannot accept interference intended to influence public life or shape perceptions or the persecution of a humanist political project,” the party added.

It was ‘Andy’ López Beltrán himself who announced the cancellation of his visa, describing the decision as a “political and propagandistic” move by Marco Rubio and Christopher Landau, the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of State, respectively.
‘Andy’ López Beltrán claimed that U.S. officials had no grounds to cancel his visa and even suggested that President Donald Trump should fire them.
“This is merely a sick conservative phobia against the National Regeneration Movement and its leaders. Why doesn’t he dismiss Rubio and Landau, as well as those under them who are harming him because they are full of resentment and sectarian attitudes?” he said in a letter published on his Instagram account.
What did Sheinbaum say about the cancellation of ‘Andy’ López Beltrán’s visa?
She accused the United States of once again interfering in Mexico’s internal affairs, attributing the decision essentially to political motives. She argued that the State Department’s actions “are not applied equally to all countries.”
During her morning press conference, Sheinbaum insisted that if Donald Trump’s administration has evidence of any crime involving a Mexican citizen, it should present that evidence so it can be evaluated by the Mexican justice system.
Claudia Sheinbaum also ruled out opening an investigation against López Beltrán before the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) because of the visa cancellation. “There is nothing against the president’s son, and if there were an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office, we would not cover for anyone,” she stated.
The decision from Washington comes less than four months after a major blow to Morena, when the New York Prosecutor’s Office opened proceedings against 10 active and former Mexican officials, including the ruling-party governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, who was accused of drug trafficking.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorized to publicly discuss the case, told AP that visa records are confidential under U.S. law and that the details of individual cases cannot be discussed.
