Real estate fraud is underreported.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of San Luis Potosí has received few complaints related to alleged real estate fraud, despite it being a recurring offense in the state, particularly in cases where a person rents out a property that they do not own, said the head of the prosecutor’s office, María Manuela García Cázares.

The prosecutor explained that this type of conduct may constitute fraud because a property is offered for rent by someone who has no ownership rights over it. However, she noted that the reports received by the institution are minimal.

García Cázares indicated that the Prosecutor’s Office currently knows of only one or two complaints related to this type of offense, and therefore ruled out the existence, for the time being, of a high number of complaints involving fraud arising from the improper rental of properties.

Regarding property disputes that arise when a person dies without leaving a will, the head of the FGE clarified that these are criminal matters and occur when disputes arise among heirs.
