What We Know About the Incident
The confrontation took place this morning in the community of Pedernales, when members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and Los Caballeros Templarios exchanged gunfire.
As a result, one man lost his life, and a vehicle was also reported to have been set on fire near the municipal district, which has affected road traffic.
Following the incident, the Michoacán Public Security Secretariat (SSP) stated that the operational presence in the area had been reinforced and that actions had been deployed to search for and locate the alleged perpetrators.
Mexican Army soldiers and National Guard personnel have joined the operations, along with municipal police officers.
The municipality of Tacámbaro is disputed by two organized crime groups seeking to expand their extortion, production, and trafficking routes in the area bordering the Purépecha region and Tierra Caliente.
