The lawyer and activist Miguel Alfonso Meza, founder of the Narcopolíticos platform, claimed that there are investigations in the United States that identify Andrés Manuel López Beltrán and Adán Augusto López as alleged leaders of a fiscal fuel theft (huachicol fiscal) scheme related to customs operations in Tamaulipas.
In an interview with Político MX, Meza said there is an investigation called “Operation Red Ball”, in which these two Morena figures are allegedly identified as people who authorized who would operate customs offices in Tamaulipas for fuel trafficking.
“Adán Augusto López is one of the main figures because the hypothesis held by these investigations in the United States, and which investigations by Mexico’s Prosecutor’s Office also point toward, is that there were two leaders of the huachicol scheme who were responsible for authorizing how the entire operation was structured: Andrés Manuel López Beltrán and Adán Augusto López. Those are the main figures,” the lawyer stated.
Morena figures under scrutiny in the United States
Meza recalled that in the United States, several Morena members are reportedly under scrutiny by authorities, through case files and intelligence that have been collected over time.
He clarified that, according to him, this is not a single “list,” but rather investigations and intelligence gathering carried out by different offices.
Regarding Rubén Rocha Moya, he claimed that this would be the case that is furthest along, while placing Adán Augusto López among the central figures who, according to the investigations he says he is familiar with, are being monitored.

- Andrés Manuel López Beltrán
- Américo Villarreal
- Mario Delgado
As well as other politicians mentioned in investigations involving fiscal fuel theft.
Morena leaders allegedly behind the hacking of his social media accounts
The activist also spoke about the hacking of his social media accounts and said he identified two Morena leaders who were allegedly behind the cyberattack that took down his Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp accounts.
In an interview with Político MX, he reiterated that he is now preparing a complaint over the hacking and will demand that President Claudia Sheinbaum grant him a right of reply for the same amount of time that was used to discuss him during the morning press conference.
Meza stated that during the past year he has worked on the Narcopolíticos platform, which he runs together with Luis Chaparro and Óscar Balderas to document alleged links between politicians and criminal groups. He said that the attacks they have received have come from figures linked to political power.
“We have not received any attacks from organized crime, but we have received many from the government,” he said.
“In reality, those who put us at risk, who attack freedom of expression, I would even say those who put our integrity at risk, so far have been figures linked to the government and linked to the Morena regime. As you know, this is not the first time; there have been at least three or four times when the regime has tried to silence us,” he stated.
Without revealing their identities, he accused a national Morena leader and sitting legislator, identified by the initials AMH, and a local leader identified as AA, of allegedly paying to attack his accounts.
He estimated that an operation to take down an account like his costs around 200,000 pesos and said he is preparing a complaint over the cyberattack, as well as legal action against Meta.
“It is a fairly complex operation; there are very few people who can do it. Who knows how much they also paid to clean up the names of these politicians who have spent decades in politics in Mexico,” he said. He also explained that he will keep the hacker’s identity confidential while the process and investigation into who was behind the operation move forward.
Despite the offensive he says he has faced, he stated that Narcopolíticos will continue its investigations and activism. He said the platform will not focus exclusively on Morena and will continue to point out possible criminal relationships involving members of opposition parties, businesspeople, security agents, and members of the military.
“This is not about attacking a government; it is about a phenomenon that we have always emphasized since the founding of this project: narco-politics is present in power and in capital. And that goes beyond Morena; it is also present in opposition parties, among businesspeople, and elsewhere,” he stated.
