Founded in April 1988, Selva Mágica Guadalajara became an emblem of the Pearl of the West. An amusement park that for many residents of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area was a lively place, but which in recent years had been losing visitors.
With just over 30 attractions for all ages, the park became one of the favorite destinations for visitors and residents of Guadalajara. Among them was “El Titán,” the largest roller coaster in western Mexico.
Selva Mágica bids farewell to Guadalajara: “We do so with enormous gratitude”
The park’s administration expressed a message of deep gratitude toward the Jalisco community, highlighting the sentimental and cultural impact that the space had for decades on the collective memory of the city.
“We do so with enormous gratitude. For decades, we had the privilege of accompanying several generations of families from Guadalajara: we were the place where many experienced their first ride on a roller coaster, where shared laughter was captured in a photograph that still hangs in the living rooms of countless homes today. Being part of those memories has been Selva Mágica’s greatest achievement,” the park stated.
Likewise, the operating company emphasized the park’s legal independence from the neighboring zoological facility, ruling out any impact or operational connection to the decision involving the neighboring institution.
“It is important to clarify that Selva Mágica belongs to an independent company that is separate from the Guadalajara Zoo, which we deeply thank for the support it provided to the park from its beginnings and for the facilities it offered throughout our history,” they explained in statements issued by the park.
Regarding the personnel who worked in the complex’s various operational and administrative areas, the company assured that the conclusion of activities would take place in full compliance with labor obligations and with respect for its employees’ rights.
“We thank our employees for their dedication and affection for this place. We are closing while fully complying with our obligations toward each and every one of them. Without a doubt, they were the most valuable part of Selva Mágica,” they emphasized in statements issued by the park.
With this announcement, the history of one of the most representative family entertainment centers in the Jalisco capital comes to an end, leaving an indelible legacy in tourism and in the childhood memories of several generations of people from Guadalajara.
“We say goodbye with the pride of having been, for so many years, a place of joy for the children of this city and an iconic tourist attraction in Mexico. Thank you to every visitor, every family, and every employee who made Selva Mágica possible,” they concluded in statements issued by the park.
The decline of Selva Mágica: Rides not working and few visitors
In recent years, through videos shared by visitors to the park on social media, it could be seen that the park was no longer in optimal condition and that its days of glory had passed.
Complaints about mechanical rides not working, combined with a pandemic from which the park struggled to recover, became the perfect combination for Selva Mágica’s facilities to lose the vitality that had characterized them for so many years.
