After Arturo López Obrador, brother of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, was confronted with chants of “Out with Morena” at a restaurant in Veracruz, it was revealed that three of his children are on the state government payroll, generating strong criticism of the Fourth Transformation.
After receiving anti-Morena chants at a restaurant in the municipality of Coatepec, AMLO’s brother denied benefiting from the Fourth Transformation. However, information shared on social media revealed that three of his children work at Colegio de Veracruz, a public educational institution; Veracruz Health Services; and the Secretariat of Government.
One of the former president’s brother’s daughters, Erandi Isabel López Herrería, is currently the rector of Colegio de Veracruz, a position she was appointed to in 2025. She currently receives a net monthly salary of 106,433.37 pesos, an amount that is 21,683 pesos higher than the salary established in the salary scale for Governor Rocío Nahle García.
Meanwhile, another of his daughters, Tarheni Andrea López Herrería, is Deputy Director of Administration of Public Charity Assets at Veracruz Health Services, with a net salary of 33,000 pesos per month.
His son, Pedro Arturo López Herrería, works as an adviser to the Secretariat of Government and receives a monthly salary of 6,500 pesos.
Amid the wave of criticism, Veracruz Secretary of Government Ricardo Ahued Bardahuil defended the three children of the former president’s brother, describing them as “people who work every day and have professionalism.”
The former PRI member recalled that in the past, governments paid “ghost employees and girlfriends” who did nothing, but insisted that this is not the case now because these are people who work and are highly professional.
“It is unfortunate that when governments used to have female and male ghost employees and girlfriends who were paid without doing anything, now there are people who work every day and have professionalism,” he said.
During an interview at the honor guard ceremony for the Father of the Nation, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, Ahued Bardahuil also referred to the well-known history of conflict between Arturo López Obrador and Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
“These young people are not responsible for what their parents do. My children are not responsible for what I do, nor for what the uncle who was president did, or for the father arguing with his brother,” the official stated.
Ahued Bardahuil insisted that the three individuals are not ghost employees.
“If they were ghost employees who were receiving money, stealing from the public treasury, or lacking the ethics to collect a salary without doing anything, then go and see them work,” he said.
