The former mayor of Chichimilá, Samuel Uc Poot, returned to the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) in Ebtún after being arrested pursuant to an arrest warrant related to an investigation into alleged fraud against a businessman from the municipality, who has since died.
According to the complaint, the former official allegedly received money as a loan and offered several properties as collateral that allegedly did not exist.
The investigation continued with the involvement of the businessman’s relatives until a judicial warrant was obtained.
Why did Samuel Uc Poot return to prison?
The new arrest is related to events that occurred during the period when Samuel Uc Poot headed the Chichimilá municipal government, between 2018 and 2021.
According to the complaint, the then-official allegedly received money from a businessman as a loan and allegedly offered properties as collateral that reportedly did not exist.
The case remained under investigation, and the businessman’s relatives, who later died, followed up on the legal proceedings until the arrest warrant was obtained, leading to Uc Poot’s new admission to the Ebtún Cereso.
Who is Samuel Uc Poot?
Samuel Uc Poot, 51, is a former mayor of Chichimilá who came to office through the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).
He governed the municipality from 2018 to 2021, in an administration that was later marked by allegations and legal proceedings related to his performance as a public official.
What other legal proceedings did the former mayor face?
This is not the first time Uc Poot has faced legal consequences.
In 2022, he was accused of granting a license for the sale of alcoholic beverages without having the corresponding authorization from the Municipal Council, for which he allegedly received a payment of more than 20,000 pesos.
The former official was arrested by officers from the State Investigation Police (PEI), assigned to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), and was subsequently found criminally responsible by a control judge in Valladolid.
As a result of that case, Uc Poot spent several months in prison and was also disqualified from holding public office.
What happens next in the new case against Samuel Uc Poot?
The new accusation concerns different events and is related to the investigation into the alleged fraud reported by the businessman and subsequently pursued by his relatives.
Following the execution of the arrest warrant, Samuel Uc Poot was once again placed at the disposal of the appropriate authorities to face the proceedings arising from this investigation.
