The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) issued a recall alert for 6,039 units of the 2024, 2025, and 2026 Geely Emgrand sold in Mexico, beginning July 3 and with indefinite validity.
According to the notice issued, “the problem may be caused by insufficient ventilation of the fuel tank cap, which can lead to the formation of a vacuum (negative pressure) in the fuel tank and fuel system lines after prolonged use of the vehicle. (Continuous use over several days or months, not use during a single trip).”
The potential consequences indicate that “in extreme cases, the pressure difference could deform the fuel tank and cause contact with the fuel pump plunger, representing a potential risk of fuel leakage.”
In response, GEELY AUTO MÉXICO CORPORATION, S. DE R.L. DE C.V. authorized its distributors to replace the fuel filler cap, ventilation tube, and canister. “In the event of deformation or leakage, the following will also be replaced: Fuel tank assembly, fuel pump with sensor, fuel pump seal, and clip. All at no cost to consumers.”
