Following the controversy generated by the upcoming implementation of the “Tourist Pass” for the circulation of vehicles with out-of-state license plates in Nuevo León, Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) distanced itself from the measure.
Baltazar Martínez Ríos, MC’s leader in the state and a member of the local Congress, stated that the proposal came from PAN congressional coordinator Carlos de la Fuente and was voted on and approved by that party and the PRI.
Furthermore, after PAN mayor of San Nicolás de los Garza, Daniel Carrillo, described the measure as “perverse,” Martínez reminded him that it had been promoted by the PAN.
“Someone, please tell the mayor that this measure was proposed in Congress by Carlos de la Fuente,” he said.
He stated that all the state government is doing is complying with and implementing a law that the “PRIAN” parties created.
“Do not try to confuse citizens about something that you yourselves carried out,” he said.
He recalled that Movimiento Ciudadano abstained from the vote because of questions surrounding the project.
The implementation of the “Tourist Pass,” which takes effect next October 21, has sparked controversy. For example, authorities in Coahuila have called it unconstitutional because it restricts citizens’ freedom of movement.
Meanwhile, the acting head of the Escobedo municipal government, José Antonio Quiroga, spoke about the matter and said that mayors have not received official information about its implementation.
“I didn’t know they were going to have to ask for a Visa to come to Nuevo León,” he said sarcastically.
He also stated that, as always, there is a lack of coordination between state and municipal authorities.
The Nuevo León Vehicle Control Institute (ICVNL) announced that beginning next October 21, vehicles traveling in Nuevo León with license plates from other states will be required to carry the “Tourist Pass,” which is processed online and has no cost.
