The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, reported that more than 9,900 people have been arrested for high-impact crimes, and 1,545 firearms and over 18 tons of drugs have been seized; additionally, three methamphetamine production laboratories have been dismantled in the state of Chiapas.
Speaking during President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s morning press conference at the 7th Military Region headquarters in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, García Harfuch stated that “these figures represent weapons taken out of criminal hands, drugs that never reached the streets, and individuals linked to criminal activities who will no longer fuel violence in Chiapas or other states of the Republic.”
He further explained that the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) is conducting ongoing maritime surveillance operations off the coast of Chiapas to detect vessels used for drug trafficking from Central and South America, resulting in the seizure of 3.7 tons of cocaine and 2,450 liters of fuel.
“In Chiapas, we have established effective coordination with Governor Eduardo Ramírez… We will continue working with the Chiapas government; wherever there is a source of violence, there will be an investigation, and there will be no impunity,” he said.
