There are destinations that remain on the tourist map, and others that suddenly begin appearing on every travel list—and Nayarit is experiencing that moment.
In 2026, the Riviera Nayarit was included by Condé Nast Traveler among the best places to visit in North America and the Caribbean, while new investments, connections, and experiences are expanding the state’s appeal.
Part of this momentum has to do with connectivity. The new Tepic–Compostela highway strengthens the connection between central Nayarit, Compostela, and the coast, while also facilitating access to Tepic–Riviera Nayarit Airport and bringing the destination closer to travelers coming from Guadalajara and the Bajío region.
Air access is also growing. Tepic–Riviera Nayarit International Airport has domestic connections to Mexico City and Tijuana, as well as international flights to Los Angeles and Houston, along with seasonal connections with Canada.
Meanwhile, Riviera Nayarit is home to luxury properties such as Rosewood Mandarina, One&Only Mandarina, and Siari, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, which are establishing the destination as one of the leading high-end lodging destinations on Mexico’s Pacific coast.
But Nayarit is not limited to luxury. Its beaches offer experiences for different types of travelers: Lo de Marcos, Sayulita, San Pancho, Punta Mita, and Rincón de Guayabitos represent different ways to enjoy the coast, from surfing and culture to relaxation and exclusivity.
Its nine Magical Towns should also be added to the list, including Jala, Sayulita, Compostela, San Blas, Mexcaltitán, Ahuacatlán, Amatlán de Cañas, Ixtlán del Río, and Puerto Balleto in the Marías Islands. Each one offers a different history and experience.
Tourist interest is also reflected in hotel indicators. Nuevo Nayarit recorded occupancy levels above 80% during the first months of 2026, placing it among the beach destinations with the highest occupancy rates in the country.
