Mexico City.- The federal government plans to build two more airports, one in Ensenada, Baja California, and another in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.
To this end, the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) requested more than 15 million pesos from the Treasury to carry out pre-investment studies, which include surveys to determine the level of groundwater and soil layers to determine the capacity to dislodge the buildings.
“In both cases, a study is included that provides for the development of airport infrastructure in phases for the short, medium and long terms,” the agency noted.
On December 6, Jorge Nuño, head of the SICT, said during his appearance in the Chamber of Deputies that the aim is to strengthen the country’s airport network with the construction of these terminals.
The agency argued that Ensenada is in a privileged geographical position due to its proximity to the United States, so it would take advantage of the nearshoring that reaches the region.
San Miguel de Allende is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Guanajuato due to its tourist relevance and the diversification of its economic activity, being a center of investment attraction for industrial developments, he added.
However, the most relevant air infrastructure that connects the municipality are the Querétaro and Bajío airports, which are 1 hour 40 minutes away and 1 hour 20 minutes away, respectively.
It is necessary to carry out studies to size the potential market and the relevance of the development of airport infrastructure in the municipality.
