The 22 owners of the plots of Malecón Tajamar have asked the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to unlock this real estate project that has been stopped for eight years due to being involved in an environmental litigation.
Although the complex has remained untouched and has in fact become a space of coexistence for the people of Cancun, the owners of the lands see with uncertainty that the National Tourism Fund (Fonatur) has already left Cancun, as it transferred to the state government all its maintenance responsibilities, in addition to having begun to auction off all its territorial reserve.
In view of these two facts that can be interpreted as an imminent disappearance of Fonatur, Miguel Ángel Lemus Mateos, leader of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI) in the south-southeast region, is organizing a joint petition addressed to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in which the owners of plots in Malecón will ask him to unlock this project.
The businessman adds that despite the injunction that in 2017 canceled this project in one fell swoop, in the different urban development programs (PDU) that have been in force in Cancun since then, Malecón Tajamar has preserved its vocation of urban space, since it is already crossed by avenues and infrastructures.
He adds that in case there is no satisfactory outcome for the businessmen who acquired land in Malecón Tajamar with the hope of developing the land and increasing its value through the construction of different businesses, they could demand compensation that together would exceed 6,000 million pesos.
As REPORTUR reported, recently the president of the Association of hotels in Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, Jesús Almaguer, the owner of Palace Resort, José Chapur, and Cristina Alcayaga, vice president of Institutional Relations of the National Business Tourism Council (CNET), consider that it is important to know how the maintenance of the hotel zone of Cancun will be and what will be the allocation of resources to keep it operational after the departure of Fonatur, remembering that they will not accept a new tax burden or right to guarantee this maintenance.
