Participating buyers highlight free deliveries as a benefit

From 2022 to 2023 there was an increase in sales of 23% and although the Mexican Online Sales Association (AMVO) did not make a projection for 2024, a double-digit result is expected.
The increase in sales and the evolution of Hot Sale online purchases from 2014 to 2023 has been 75 times and a compound growth of 28% in the last five years.
Globally, the growth of online retail sales is led by Latin America, as a result of the positive impact it has had in Mexico and Brazil. Although the global average is 10%, our region in 2023 had 16.4% and North America reported 9.1%.
In the case of Mexico, it occupies first place with the highest speed in the growth of online sales with 24.6%, closely followed by the Philippines with 24.1%, Malaysia with 18%, Argentina and Brazil with 17 and 15.4%, respectively. according to the Online Sales Study, Panorama of electronic commerce and the digital consumer in Mexico 2024.
How has Hot Sale been from 2019 to 2023?
One of the important changes that has been registered is in terms of the combination of purchases in the physical store and online, what has now been called omnichannel. It was precisely in 2023 when there was the highest purchase percentage in both channels with 31% of the participation.
Online-only purchases in 2019, prior to the pandemic, 74% were recorded in said channel. Purchases in a physical store only in 2023 and 2021 reached 11%, 2019 and 2022 were below 10%.
Regarding the units sold, it was observed that in 2020 and 2023 they were practically equal, having 29.1 million and 29.2 million respectively. Regarding purchase orders, although in 2019 and 2023 there were 2.6 items per order, last year 11.1 million orders were registered compared to 6.5 in 2019.
Reasons to buy online
Each year, the AMVO has analyzed the five reasons why consumers prefer to buy online and in three years (2021, 2022 and 2023) the saving in time and travel to the physical store has been highlighted.
Other reasons are that they find more promotions and discounts on the internet, they receive purchases quickly and easily, they can compare prices and variety on the internet and in 2019, it was mentioned with 34% that they could find products that were not available in physical stores.
The issue of free deliveries has been a constant among consumer responses regarding the benefits of shopping online.
In 2023, women stood out when responding to this benefit (21%)
In 2021 and 2022, the response was 35% and 26% respectively
In 2020, free delivery regardless of the purchase amount had 36%
For their part, non-buyers have stated that they would buy from Hot Sale if the return process were easy and fast.

2020, the atypical year in online sales
The year 2020 had different characteristics due to the covid-19 pandemic where it was observed that 6 out of 10 buyers received their packages for free and there was an increase in delivery times with more than seven days of waiting with 13%.
