After an intense rescue operation that mobilized federal, local, and volunteer agencies, the body of a tourist from Mexico City, identified as Jesús Manuel “N”, was found Sunday morning. He had been missing since Saturday afternoon after an accident while kayaking.

The discovery was made at approximately 10:00 a.m. Sunday, two miles offshore in the area known as Punta Cocos. The body was spotted by rescue teams who resumed the search at 5:00 a.m., after nighttime conditions forced them to suspend the search at sunset on Saturday.

According to reports, the incident occurred Saturday when the victim was in the water with a group of young people. Jesús Manuel “N” fell into the water from a small kayak, and when his companions realized he hadn’t resurfaced, they immediately alerted the island authorities.

In response to the emergency, a large search operation was launched, covering the area from Playa Norte to Punta Cocos. The operation involved personnel from the Mexican Navy (SEMAR), Civil Protection, the Port Authority, as well as tourist boat operators from Holbox Island and civilian vessels sent by the Chiquilá municipality, totaling more than 20 boats at sea.

After the body was found, it was taken to the island to await the arrival of forensic experts from the State Attorney General’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office to conduct the necessary procedures, remove the body, and subsequently release it to the family. To date, ministerial authorities have not released further details about the case.
