Biofuels, a solution for Mexico, but infrastructure is lacking: Verde Clean Fuels

The integration of biofuels into this strategy requires a multidimensional approach, says the general director of Acclaim Energy México, Maria José Treviño Melguizo.

Given the urgent need to reduce polluting emissions, biofuels become a viable alternative for markets like Mexico, where they are a quick response to improve mobility and power generation processes, explained the executive director of Verde Clean Fuels, Ernest Miller. .

However, he highlighted that the main problem that the market has is that it faces challenges ranging from the availability of raw materials, lack of infrastructure and a demand that justifies investments.

Challenges for biofuels in Mexico

At the Texas-Mexico Business Forum 2024, a conference organized by the Association of Mexican Entrepreneurs in the United States (AEM-USA), Miller detailed that biofuels would improve energy security, promote sustainability and diversify the energy matrix.

He pointed:

“Collaboration between market players, both inside and outside borders, is a growing trend. Joint efforts are being made to develop cross-border energy infrastructure, such as gas pipelines and transmission lines, as well as to jointly explore and produce gas reserves.”

For her part, the general director of Acclaim Energy México, María José Treviño Melguizo, said that it is important to design a solid energy strategy, essential for the country to have comprehensive development, addressing energy needs with environmental objectives, as well as promoting Mexico’s economic priorities. . She said:

“The integration of biofuels into this strategy requires a multidimensional approach that overcomes political, regulatory, financial, technological and institutional barriers.”

Given the need for biofuel strategies, the president of the AEM-USA, Fernando Sepúlveda, indicated that the bilateral relationship between Mexico and the United States acquires unprecedented relevance for this purpose thanks to nearshoring, the reconfiguration of global value chains and the debate around climate change.

He stated:

“This is where organizations like AEM USA, dedicated to promoting and facilitating collaboration between entrepreneurs, come into play.”
